Highly regarded both as an actor and director Kenneth Branagh has an Oscar but not for either of those positions but instead for the screenplay of ‘Belfast’. His career as a director is varied having taken in Shakespeare (Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet), thrillers (Dead Again), horror (Frankenstein) fairy tales (Cinderella), action (Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit), whodunnit’s (Murder on the Orient Express) and even a Marvel superhero film (Thor). It’s that last category that he’s not returned to having passed on the Thor sequel with Taika Waititi helming the third and fourth film. But Kenneth Branagh’s Thor idea for him to return as director is an intriguing one.

He revealed in a recent press interview, “Part of me would love to finish my relationship with that character. I’d always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold’s brilliant ‘Logan.’ I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes ‘Thor’ into a glorious twilight.”
Whether Kenneth Branagh’s Thor idea will happen is possible and he explained that he was, “definitely was ready for another,” but that “Marvel shoots are intense. Marvel postproduction is more intense — wildly exciting but super intense. I definitely needed to smell the roses. Kevin Feige was very understanding, and so was the cast. I needed a break.”
What are the chances?
But quite whether he has been offered the chance is a little hazy as he went on to say, “They are so far deep into the future of the Marvel Universe that I’m sure whatever plans they have for it are already kind of set. All I know is there’s something beautiful to be had out of arriving at a conclusion for that arc of those stories with those characters and those actors.”
