Kathleen Kennedy now formally retired as head of Lucasfilms has spoken about those Star Wars film status yet to be filmed. Here’s what she revealed ….
Simon Kinberg Star Wars film status
The first film that we’re liely to see first is from a script draft that was first submitted in August 2025 that she described as ‘very good, but not there”. A 70-page treatment saw it reworked and a completed script is expected to be delivered to the studio in MArch 2026. She went on to say that the new Lucasfilm bosses Filoni and Brennan arevery keen on the script regarding it as a new trilogy launcher.
James Mangold Star Wars film status
Along with Beau Willimon (“Andor”) they have co-scripted a story set tens of thousands of years before the original trilogy. Kennedy has described it as “breaks the mold” and “incredible” but not before revealing that it’s on the “back burner”.
Donald Glover & Taika Waititi films
Separate completed scripts have been submitted with each is very much still in the running films. Unsurprisingly Waititi’s she has labelled as being “hilarious and great”. but they await Filoni and Brennan go ahead.
What about those Star Wars film status yet to be announced
somewhat leftfield is Steven Soderbergh having written a script titled “The Hunt for Ben Solo” but she says that that project is just not happening. David Fincher nor Alex Garland did have exploratory early discussions but no formal commitment was made and as for Patty Jenkins’ “Rogue Squadron” or Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s “New Jedi Order” films she made no mention whatsoever
The next Star wars films we will definitely see is “The Mandalorian and Grogu” that opens in May, and “Star Wars: Starfighter” with Ryan Gosling that opens in 2027.
