Rick and Morty has first appeared in 2013 and since then has gone on to win a two Emmy awards and recently has become cable TV’s most-watched comedy over the past few seasons. So it seems long overdue that we get a Rick and Morty movie.

The series follows inventor Rick Sanchez and his universe-spanning adventures with teen grandson Morty and was created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland although Roiland, who voiced both characters left the series and was recast. Currently on its ninth season it has been commissioned up to season 12. Jacob Hair who has directed episodes of the long-running since 2019 and has been confirmed to direct the Rick and Morty movie with Harmon saying, ‘We didn’t shop around’.

Zack Snyder is a big fan of the series even having played himself in season eight. So it was a no brainer for him to offer to help pull some strings to bring a feature version of Rick and Morty to the big screen. Harmon commented, “He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?’”

The film will be through Warner Brois and Harmon explained, ‘“My philosophy would be to just take a Rick and Morty adventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long…..Not to try to earn its feature status by virtue of canonical dramatic tone shifts or anything like that, but rather to just make it a super badass episode of Rick and Morty.

Plot details have not yet been publicly shared for the film that is in early development.
