Behind the mask
With The Mandalorian and Grogu doing respectable if not stellar box office business we thought we would take a look at just who is in the Mandalorian costume. Though the film credits Pedro Pascal in the role the that sees all Mandalorian’s live by a strict creed (summed up by the phrase “This is the way”), which involves never removing their helmets out of fear of banishment.
So just who is in the Mandalorian costume?
So it’s for that reason that it is not Pascal in the costume a lot of the time. With the role being something of a softly spoken Clint Eastwood type ‘man-with-no-name its actor Brendan Wayne behind the mask who has famous ancestry in westerns namely that his grandfather was the inimitable John Wayne. Brendan Wayne auditioned for the role back in 2018 for the TV series. In fact his knowledge of the western saw him suggesting that the rifle be shorter and for a holster to be added to the suit also which director Jon Favreau duly took on board.
And there’s another!
But there’s another man who dons the Mandalorian costume also and that’s stuntman Lateef Crowder for stunt sequences such as the shoot outs and battling with the Hutt clan’s basement space serpent.
So though it might seem impossible to spot when it is Pascal, Wayne or Crowder there is one way of telling it is Wayne. The pointers to look out for is that Wayne has a long neck so there’s a longer space between the Mandalorian’s cowl to cape. As for Crowder he has wide shoulders, is muscular and has dreads so the costume (which weighs 62 pounds and was worn for 13 hour days!) is a little fuller and the cape sits higher.
And that’s who is in the Mandalorian costume!
