Ever since the success of the first film all the way back in 2014 there’s been talk of a sequel. But twelve years later what’s happened to Edge of Tomorrow 2?
How well did it do?
Having made $381m off a $176m budget it made enough, especially on the Home Entertainment release, to warrant a sequel and on the film tenth anniversary director Doug Liman had announced that he had been working on a script and trying to ‘crack the story’ and the studio Warners, were very keen.
Edge of Tomorrow 2 development….
Since then a few things have occurred when the Cruise-Lima film ‘Deeper’ was to begin shooting first but as that film went in to pre-production that film was put on hold also. So Edge of Tomorrow 2 was then slated to begin production in Autumn 2026 but now that has been pulled from that slot too.
Tom’s time….
Cruise is as busy as ever now with the rumoured Oscar likely film ‘Digger’ to be released in the Autumn and promotional detail for that likely to be hiked up for the awards season. There’s a Space X production that is likely to be his next followed by either a remake of the Clint Eastwood film The Gauntlet (hugely entertaining nonsense and worth catching if you’ve never seen it) or more likely ‘Broadsword , a war film written and directed by Cruise’ regular collaborator Christopher McQuarrie. And then of course there’s the confirmation of a third Top Gun film. So on that count it would now seem that the sequel. if it is ever to appear. is at two or maybe three years away at the very earliest.
