Who’s behind The Mist remake?
Stephen King seems to have an endless number of books that can be made into movies and 2025 alone saw three of them made into film ( The Monkey, The Long Walk and The Life of Chuck – all worth seeing). Bit remakes of films of his books are few (The Shining, Pet Semetary, Firestarter and Carrie are perhaps the best known and none of which were a success). But writer-director Mike Flanagan has a reputation for making excellent films (and TV series) of the books and his eyes are now on Stephen King’s The Mist remake which if it goes ahead will be the third time the book has been filmed.
The story sees a small town in Maine (obviously)consumed by a thick mysterious fog from which creatures emerge to attack the townsfolk. A group of survivors hole up in a local grocery store where anarchy and societal break down brings out the best in some, and the very worst in others that sees a mob mentality develop unhinged extremists become as dangerous if not more so than the horrors outside.
What ending will Will The Mist remake use?
Taken from his Skeleton Crew book the story was turned into a 2007 film and a 2017 TV series. Its the 2007 that is most remembered for its most bleak, downbeat and frankly most upsetting of endings that’s better than the book making it one of the very best films adaptations of his books. So its for that reason we’re not convinced that The Mist remake for a third time is really necessary.
The Directors pedigree in Stephen King films…..
Flanagan previous films of King’s works include Gerald’s Game, The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep and Life of Chuck. He also recently shot a “Carrie” limited series, has been developing a “The Dark Tower” TV series adaptation.
Flanagan is currently at work on a new “The Exorcist” film, starring Scarlett Johansson that set for release in 2027.
