Landing in our inbox is Georgi M. Unkovski’s charming coming-of-age feature film debut with the DJ AHMET trailer that tells the story of a young boy who finds escape through dance music.
Ahmet is a 15-year-old boy from a remote Yörük village in North Macedonia who finds refuge in dance music while navigating his father’s expectations, a conservative community, and his first experience of love — with a girl already promised to someone else.
The film launched to great acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition, where it won both the Audience Award and the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision. After a successful international festival run, including screenings at the BFI London Film Festival.
Featuring a talented young cast—many making their professional debut—Georgi M. Unkovski’s delightful first feature is an inspiring and frequently hilarious celebration of music’s unifying power and the unexpected freedoms it can bring. With a vibrant, eclectic soundtrack, the film paints a vivid portrait of youth and artistic liberation.
