The ‘Original Dangerous Woman’ ?
With 2025 not being a great year for Sydney Sweeney films which all flopped until the end of the year with ‘The Housemaid’ that has been a huge success having made $177m off a relatively moderate budget so much so that a sequel has been quickly greenlit. Well now there’s news that Sydney Sweeney is the Original Dangerous Woman
So what is the Original Dangerous Woman?
Well perhaps we should qualify that remark because the Original Dangerous Woman is how director Josie Rourke (“Mary Queen of Scots”) describes Undine Spragg the character that Sweeney will play in the adaptation of Edith Warton’s book, ‘Custom of the Country’ that the director will also adapt into a screenplay. As described in the official press release, Undine Spragg is, “armed with beauty, daring/hustle and sheer force of will and unwavering ambition, battles an entrenched elite, fearlessly courting controversy, until love and fortune align.”
The director explains further…
She continued ,“Edith Wharton’s character has forever fascinated, seduced and infuriated readers. ‘The Custom of the Country’ was Wharton’s great American novel and Undine Spragg sweeps across America and through Europe at top speed, during a time of immense economic and social change,” ……. “The book whistles with modernity and as I was writing this adaptation, Sydney Sweeney lived in my head as this iconic character — it’s as if Wharton sat down a century ago and wrote the role for her.”
When it was going to appear and how and with who!
Back in 2020 Sofia Coppola had intended to turn the book into a mini series for Apple and was to star Florence Pugh but it never happened. But for this Sidney Sweeney starrer principal photography is expected to begin imminently.
