A new National Lampoon film?
So with Christmas season now over and lets be honest who doesn’t love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation which coincides with the recent Chevy Chase documentary there is news of a new National Lampoon film.
Who’s behind a new National Lampoon film?
Rumoured to be titled, ‘“National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle” it is co-written by Paul Sloan and Mike Hatton. Hatton will direct in his directorial debut and will star in as an independent producer desperately trying to save a crumbling movie production alongside Sloan’s washed-up movie star character. Working together, the two must try to navigate chaotic Los Angeles after someone steals the production’s money.
The rumoured cast….
Also appearing in the film are rumoured to be Mickey Rourke, Alec Baldwin, Nick Cannon, Tara Reid, Danny Trejo, Til Schweiger, Carrot Top, and Patrick Warburton a cast that’s not without their own personal demons, issues and public personas. It’s believed that Nick Cannon will play a Hollywood agent who helps Hatton’s character by trying to secure Baldwin’s character for the project. Baldwin, Rourke, Reid, and Trejo are rumoured to all play hyper, real hyped up OTT versions of themselves.
The National Lampoon film back catalogue …..
The National Lampoon films had been of wildly varying quality with 1978’s ‘Animal House’ revered and making an astonishing $141m along with 1983’s Vacation that made $61. It’s Chevy Chase’s Lampoon vacation films that are best loved with the franchise that included 1985’s European Vacation ($49m), the much loved Christmas Vacation ($75m) and finally and least of all, Vegas Vacation. And with the recent documentary about Chase combined with him now turning 83 years of age this year it would seem highly unlikely that he will be playing Clark Griswold again. The Van Wilder films are also part of the cannon though far less revered.
