Should the California Schemin’ trailer be called Caledonian schemin’?
There’s something about British rappers, usually skanky shell suit wearing potheads barely able to string a sentence together that often never really rings true. Despite that UK break out acts Derek B & Rakim paved the way and the California Schemin’ trailer is a fascinating insight into how a pair of chancers almost ruined it for everyone.
Is the California Schemin’ trailer a true story?
Based on the improbably true story, the film follows aspiring Scottish MCs Gavin (Séamus McLean Ross) and Billy (Samuel Bottomley) as they devise an audacious scheme to achieve their dream of a record deal, by posing as Californian hip hop artists. As fame beckons and the lies pile up, their friendship is put to the test.
Based on?
It’s inspired by a 2013 documentary of the real lads and their story called “The Great Hip Hop Hoax”
