Macaulay Culkin’s Home Alone reboot

Along with Elf, Love Actually, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Love Actually, A Christmas Carol ( all 10,000+ versions that must surely have been made over the years) et al probably one of the best loved of Christmas films is Home Alone (1990) that made a star of Macauley Culkin and in a film that went on to earn $476m not bad for a film that only cost $18m and a sequel followed two years later after which the star dropped out and eventually dropped out of films for a decade. But Macaulay Culkin’s Home Alone reboot idea was offered up by the now 45 year old actor.

Ar a recent live event he was asked about ever returning to the films and though he said he wasn’t adverse to the idea he mentioned his Home Alone reboot idea saying….

“I kind of had this idea. I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard, and I’m not really paying enough attention, and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me, and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me. The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship. [Kevin has to] get let back into [his] son’s heart.”

Whether it will happen is unknown but the original director Chris Columbus has expressed that the film was something of a lightening in a bottle movie and seems to unlikely to return if it ever did get relit. But its the sort of reboot that’s highly likely to catch the eye of studio executive keen to give it a try.
