James Cameron’s next film after Avatar ……

movie flex

With Avatar 3,4,& 5 likely to take up his time for the next five years James Cameron’s next film after Avatar will be Charles Paellegrino’s book Ghostts of Hiroshima for which he has just bought the rights. He has also bought the 2015 book Last train from Hiroshima and will be the film he shoots as soon as his Avatar scheduel allows.

Both books are non-fiction and will be combines into one film that he describes as one “uncompromising theatrical film.” and will be his first non-Avatar film since 1997’s Oscar-winning Titanic. Ghosts of Hiroshima will be published in August 2025 to mark the 80th anniversary of the dropping of the bomb in 1945.

The story is partly based on that of a Japanese man during World War II who survived the atomic blast at Hiroshima, hopped on a train to Nagasaki, and then survived the nuclear explosion in that city. A sort of ‘out of the frying pan into the (nuclear) fire’ story.

Cameron said “I met Tsuromu Tamaguchi, a survivor of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, just days before he died. He was in the hospital. He was handing the baton of his personal story to us, so I have to do it. I can’t turn away from it.” While visiting Yamaguchi, Cameron and Pellegrino pledged to “pass on his unique and harrowing experience to future generations.” Cameron is no stranger to nuclear wat having featured it as a premise of his two terminator  films.

The book publisher also dealt with the audio book of Oppenheimer which won director Christopher Nolan a Best Director oscar and did not feature the Nagasaki or the Hiroshima bomb  whereas Cameron has featured nuclear bomb blasts on screen.
