With ‘Michael’ now the biggest earning musical biopic of all time its been announced that the next music ‘icon’ to have a film made about them will be Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. Although its more likely to titled, because this is his rap name, ‘Snoop Dogg the movie’.

Made by Universal, who are having a great 2026, the film will be release on 6th August 2027. “Outer Banks” star Jonathan Davis will be playing the rapper and the film has been described by Universal as the “definitive biopic of the artist, mogul and icon of gangsta rap.” Craig Brewer, best known for “Song Sung Blue” and “Hustle & Flow,” is directing the movie and will feature music the rappers vast catalogue including “Drop it Like It’s Hot,” “What’s My Name” and ‘Do the Okey Cokey’ (Ok, we made up that last one) and is, to date, a 17-time Grammy-nominated artist.
Whether it is a whole life biopic or just feature one chapter in the rappers life is unknown at present but with a career that includes songwriting, acting producing, DJing, media personality and entrepreneur there’s plenty to choose from and is taken from a revised the script that had an initial draft from Joe Robert Cole.
The film will be the first from the studio’s overall deal with Death Row Pictures, the rapper’s content label and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer who worked on “8 Mile,”. Universal’s previous movies about notable hip-hop artists include 2015’s Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton, which surpassed $200 million at the box office.

About Snoop Dogg the movie the rapper said, ‘“After my brothers got to tell their story with Straight Outta Compton, now it’s my turn,” the rapper told the crowd about the studio’s N.W.A movie. “My director, Craig Brewer, he just showed us how hard it is out here for a pimp from Hustle & Flow. And then last year, he got us all singing ‘Sweet Caroline.’”
