Landing in our inbox is the teaser trailer for Digger the new film from Tom Cruise and what is clearly being lined up as an Oscar contender specifically for Cruise as the career retrospective that leases up to it sets out what a truly phenomenal career and array of roles in has had.

Helmed by Alejandro G. Inarritu himself no slouch when it comes to the Oscars with wins for The Revenant and Birdman his latest film Digger sees Cruise as the most powerful man in the world who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything. And on that synopsis you cant help but feel that this might be a…ahem…dig at Elon Musk. Whatever it is this is sure to be something of an event movie when it is released on 2nd October 2026 and the teaser trailer gives a teaser of what feels like a great movie to look forward to in the Autumn.
Cruise career…
The career retrospective is a worthwhile reminder of the phenomenal career Cruise has had over the past 40+ years and arguably is the only actor over that time who has maintained A list status. His career has taken in the multi billion franchise Mission Impossible as well as comedy (Tropic Thunder), musical (Rock of Ages) drama (the quite brilliant ‘Magnolia’ for which he really should have won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) and of course action and its understandable that after 4 Oscar nominations there will be a hard push for him to be nominated and obviously win a Best Actor Oscar for Digger although at present its still far to early to see who else will be in contention
