Latest entry in the ‘how many decades between sequels’ is the arrival of Practical Magic 2 trailer that will be released 28 years after the original film. 1998’s Practical Magic was based on the novel by Alice Hoffman and dealt with sisterhood, female empowerment and domestic abuse.
A multi generational family of witches, cursed to be loveless for centuries, attempts to break the spell by confronting dark secrets and sacrificing for each other and
Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock (who also produce) reprise their roles as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who in the original movie fight a family curse that dispatches the men with whom they fall in love. The sequel also sees then being joined by Joey King (“Bullet Train,”) as the daughter of Bullock and who discovers the dark family secrets and her own dark powers that soon plunges the family back into a crisis.
The three stars are joined by Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Lee Pace along with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest from the first film. Directing will Susanne Bier (“Bird Box) from a script by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett
In early 2025, it was officially announced the sequel with a teaser for a 2026 release, marking Bullock’s highly anticipated return to acting after a four-year hiatus – and the reunion of the original cast nearly 30 years after the first film.
