Earlier this year we had the latest Public Domain Resurrection with Screamboat, another horror spin on a children’s favourite this time with Steamboat Willie featuring Mickey Mouse (or Mortimer Mouse as he was at the time). Well the film made enough money (£393,011 to be precise) that we can now look forward to a Screamboat sequel. In fact the first film did so well that it won the Best Public Domain Resurrection at the October 2025 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
“I’m thrilled to announce the sequel to our bloody horror comedy,” director Steven LaMorte said in a statement. “We had so much fun bringing these iconic characters to life with a bloody twist, and I look forward to returning to the world of ‘Screamboat’ to create even more miniature murder and mayhem.”
The sequel is set to begin development in 2026 and it seems that most of the cast who survived the first film are expected to return although at present no formal announcement has been made. And joining the cast will be Minnie Mouse who was glimpsed in the end credit scene of the first film and a press release added that, “Fans can expect the sequel to build on that legacy with even more outrageous set pieces and gruesome comedy.”
A little fact about the first films box office haul is that it made made than half its money on Russia with a haul of $192,000!
