Having had a fallow few years after the fallout of his court case with ex-wife Amber Heard Johnny Depp has been slowly but surely edging back into film again. Having gone behind the camera of ‘Mogdiliani’ – only the second film he has directed in thirty years the news is that Johnny Depp is Ebeneezer in a new version of A Christmas Carol to be directed by horror director Ti West.
The film will be part of a re-invigorated Paramount studios following their merger with Skydance. Co-starring with Depp will be Andrea Riseborough and the studio has set a release date of 13th November 2026.
It’s just the latest of many versions of the classic Charles Dickens story over the years (there’s even been a Muppet version!) with its tale of an elderly miser visited by the ghost of his former business partner and the spirits of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come. Nathaniel Halpern penned the script with Emma Watts producing.
So though Johnny Depp is Ebeneezer it will be the second Christmas Carol film announced this year after Warner Bros. also put in development a version from director Robert Eggers with his favourite actor Willem Dafoe in line to play Scrooge and is sure to be a visually very different film from any that audiences have ever seen before.
