The Conjuring Last Rites has the 2nd biggest opening weekend behind only …..

movie flex

Despite decidedly mixed to negative reviews the fourth film in The Conjuring franchise Last Rites has had a huge opening weekend earning $187m by far the best start for the occult-titled franchise. It is the second-biggest global debut in history for a horror film behind only 2017’s “It” with $190 million.

The franchise stared back in 2013 helmed by James Wan and the first film earned $320, followed by its first sequel in 2016 which earned $216m. It was then followed by a third film in 2021 which like all films at that time, was affected by the global lockdown, but still made $206m. But the Conjuring universe ahs seen several spin off film including three Annabelle films ($257m, $306m & $231m and two Nun films ($366m & $269m) meaning that the nine films have earned a cumulative total of $2.3 billion meaning that we will undoubtedly be seeing more films.

The Conjuring Last Rites was predicted to earn $50m worldwide but smashed that record with a $103m (earning more than previous No 1 earner ‘It Chapter Two’ did) and in the US it made $84m.

This latest film is being called the last last film in ‘Phase One’ and that Phase Two will begin soon. What this means is uncertain but as this fourth film is intended to be the last with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as Lorraine and Ed Warren as indicated by the films end credits.
