Now for us we thought that the Desperate Journey trailer would be one about commuters trying to get to work because the London underground tube drivers had gone on strike again for their right to do an eight hour week and work from home. But it turns out that it is in face the trailer for a film based on a true story.
Desperate Journey is a fast-paced thriller set in the burlesque world of 1940s Paris, featuring rising star Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (1899), Clara Rugaard (I Am Mother), Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds), and Steven Berkoff (A Clockwork Orange). As the Nazis invade, Freddie Knoller is forced to flee Vienna. Stranded in Paris, penniless and in urgent need of papers, he takes a job at a notorious burlesque club frequented by high-ranking Nazis. In this glamorous yet dangerous world, he falls for the lead showgirl and is drawn into a chain of events that will change his life forever
The film is directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Annabel Jankel (‘Tell It to the Bees’ – reviewed HERE ) and written by two-time Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner Michael Radford (Il Postino). Jankel has moved on far more successfully after the disastrous live action version of ‘Super Mario Bros’ back in 1993 having moved into far more serously themed films. The film was edited by Academy Award nominee Jon Harris (127 Hours). The original score was composed by BAFTA and Emmy nominee Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust) and recorded with a full orchestra. The film was mixed for theatrical Dolby Atmos by Academy Award winner Richard Pryke (Slumdog Millionaire).
Desperate Journey opens exclusively in cinemas nationwide on 28th November 2025
