Back in the day we were always at stand up clubs especially Up the Creek! the notorious comedy club in Greenwich owned and run by the late great Malcolm Hardee a man of legendary status whose life is surely worth the biopic treatment. So we were intrigued by the arrival of the, ‘Is this Thing On?’ trailer
As their marriage unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while wife Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family-forcing them to navigate co-parenting and identity.
Co-written, co-produced and directed by Bradley Cooper this looks likely to be another Oscar contender for him but films about stand ups are notoriously unpredictable because for every Man on the Moon & The King of Comedy there’s a Punchline (Tom Hanks flop) & The Comedian’s Guide to Survival (James Buckley bomb).
