A new Amityville Horror film

The Amityville Horror was a film based on a 1974 story and subsequent book where George and Kathy Lutz, along with their three children, moved into the house, unaware of its past where Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and four siblings in their home at 112 Ocean in Amityville, New York. Shortly after they had moved in the Lutz’ claimed to experience a series of unsettling paranormal phenomena — that included unexplained noises, cold spots, foul smells and sightings of strange apparitions – frankly its little different from when our Editor locks himself in his office after a big night out (‘You’re fired” – Ed).  After just 28 days, the family ran from the house, allegedly petrified by the supernatural occurrences. The 1979 film of the book earned $86m and since then there have been infrequent sequels all of vastly varying quality with even Ryan Reynolds in a pre Deadpool role appearing in a 2005 remake. Well now there’s news of a new Amityville Horror film.

This new Amityville Horror film is described as ‘a radical new spin on the famed haunted house story for a new generation’. Behind it will be the Joseph and Vanessa Winter  the married writer-director duo behind the footage horror movie Deadstream, who will direct from their own script. Its rumoured to go into production towards the end of 2025 with a release date in late 2026.

Plot details are under wraps but neither the DeFeo murders nor the Lutz story will be part part of the script so quite what it will be about is anyone’s guess. Our guess is the turmoil of the estate agents trying to sell the place!
