Released in 1997, ‘Twin Town’ was seen as something of a Welsh, ‘Trainspotting’ that had been released the year before. Starring Rhys Ifans at the very start of his career the film saw Julian and Jeremy, two brothers who prefer to spend their time on drugs and joyriding. But wrecked car caused by the two hell raising brothers sets off a sequence of events that in the end allows the two brothers to fulfill their dead fathers final wish all the while raising more hell, smoking lots of pot, stealing cars and getting revenge. A Twin Town sequel seemed imminent.
With a cast of Welsh character actors Huw Ceredig, Di Botcher and even the late Brian Hibbard from The Flying Pickets (‘Ba da da da!) there was also David Hayman and Dougray Scott who shortly after wards would be cast as the villain in Mission Impossible II. Rhys Ifans went on to be quite brilliant in a diverse range of films that took in Notting Hill ( that would cement his stardom ), Kevin & Perry go large, Noy Only Bit Also (superb as the late great Peter Cook), The Amazing Spiderman and La Cha Cha also for director Keith Allen. The film was a modest hit and there’s been much talk of a ‘Twin Town’ sequel ever since.
