With the 1992 film having been such a huge success making a Whitney Houston an even bigger star and confirming that she could act its a wonder it has not been remade sooner with any one of a number of burgeoning female popstars. Especially as it was nominated for two Oscars for its songs beloved by karaoke warblers (altogether now, ‘And IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII will always love yooooooooooou!’), and its soundtrack became the best-selling of all time and the best-selling album by a female artist of all time. Well The Bodyguard remake news now confirms that the project has a writer and now a director.
Warners who are backing the film have now confirmed that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour director Sam Wrench from a script by Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams.
No casting has been set but with Wrench having helmed the Eras tour film a huge global success with an almost two-year-long global tour that obliterated the record with more than $2 billion in ticket sales across 149 shows it would suggest that Taylor Swift must be in the running for the lead role with her following guaranteed to make the film an enormous success. But there’s a whole load of other stars rumoured to be in the running with Sabrina Carpenter, and even Billie Eilish and perhaps more bizarrely Lizzo among many being mentioned all of whom have been in concert documentaries directed by Wrench. (“A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter,”)
The original film made $411 million at the worldwide box office and became one of the biggest films of 1992 and its likely that with the right casting any remake should do the same sort of stellar business too.
