Breaking out with his debut feature, ‘Clerks’ in 1994 he went on to court more controversy with his  film Mallrats, Chasing Amy and his fourth film the religious satire, ‘Dogma’ that has an astonishing cast that included Ben Affleck. Matt Damon, Alan Rickman , Chris Rock, Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, George Carlin and even Alanis Morissette. The trouble it caused made as Dogma sequel unlikely.

Controversial from the very first scene where an abortion clinic worker with a special heritage is called upon to save the existence of humanity from being negated by two renegade angels trying to exploit a loop-hole and re-enter Heaven.

In the US the film was met with protests outside cinemas and at one point Smith, whose face was still relatively unknown, even joined one of the groups outside the cinema. The film earned $31m worldwide and now over 25 years later with the film having a limited re-release in the US we got to chat with the writer director and asked him, ‘Will there be a sequel to Dogma?’ This is what he said…
