Writer-director Ari Aster gave us two stunning and very different horror films with hereditary and the Midsommar. Commercial and critical hits both until he gave us ‘Beau is Afraid’ which really divided audiences – and frankly we’re still undecided whether it was great or ghastly. Anyway we now have a glimpse at his new film at his new film with the ‘Eddington’ trailer.
Eddington centers on conflict between the mayor (Joaquin Phoenix) and sheriff (Pedro Pascal) of the small town of Eddington, New Mexico. In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington.
Emma Stone and Austin Butler are co-stars along with Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka and Amélie Hoeferle. Far from the horror of his first two films and the general oddness of his third film this is described as a comedy drama western. We’ll see,
The film will debut at the 2025 Cannes Film festival and will “Eddington” opens in cinemas on July 18th.
