Time Travel is Dangerous – REVIEW

Just where do those vintage shops get their stock? House clearances might be the answer though there’s only so many packets of past their sell by date Werthers Originals you can offload. But for Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson played by Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson their answer is found by the bins where they purloin most of their stock. But it’s no ordinary dodgem car – for a start it doesn’t have a spotty teenage traveller hanging off the back of it. Instead what it does have is the power to travel through time which is something of a Godsend for the pair of shop owners as their business Cha Cha Cha is on the edge of closure not helped by their landlord keen to see it go that way so he can build a block of flats on the land. So their frequent trips into the past to pick up stock is a neat idea that sees them visit various periods in the past but all this time travel causes ripples in the wormholes and they find that Time Travel is Dangerous!

Into the mix is thrown a society of garden shed based inventors and would be scientists headed up by Martin (Guy Henry) with members including Peter (the always dependable Tony Way) as well as Ralph (Brian Bovell) who invented the time travel device but dumped it when he found himself in a wormhole limbo giving the film its title and Ruth and Megan are soon  to find that Time Travel is Dangerous when they too find themselves trapped in time

There are neat moments here with some amusing documentary style taking heads and the filmmakers have assembled a cast of big name cameos including the likes of Johnny Vegas as a wonkey-donkey robot from a ropey TV science show ( think TV comedy series, ‘Look Around You’ but on an invisible budget) as well as Sophie Thompson, Brian Blessed, the sublime Mark Heap, Jane Horrocks, as well as Stephen Fry who narrates.
