Those single location films have the potential to be excellent given a good premise – think ”Buried’, The Shallows and 12 Angry Men. Even Hitichock had a go with the little seen but well worth a watch, ‘Lifeboat’. Way back oin 2013 we had Locked starring Tom Hardy with the entire film just him driving bis car and taking ever urgent phone calls as his life begins to fall apart. Well now we have the similarly titled, ‘Locked’ that’s also set in a car this time starring Bill Skaarsgard & Anthony Hopkins and produced by Sam Raimi and after watching the Locked trailer we are made keen to see this.
It’s a simple set up namely a thief (skaarsgard) breaks into a luxury SUV but soon realizes that he has slipped into a sophisticated game of psychological horror. The car belongs to William (Anthony Hopkins) a wealthy man with lots of grievances against society, particularly those who are on the fringe and have nothing — unlike him, whose luxury automobile represents a person who has it all and the security technology to keep it that way. William keeps the torture every few minutes as he muses on the ills of the world and keeps the bad times coming.
Hopkins phones in the performance …quite literally as he uses the car’s phone to speak to the thief trapped within and relentlessly torment him as he takes control. With a pair of exceptional actors (Hopkins has worked several time with Bill’s father Stellan in films Amistad, Thor and The Dark World) this looks like a must see film, No confirmed UK release date just yet but it can’t be long before we find out
