With six film in the Scream franchise just about every character new and old who pops up has come to a macabre end usually at the end of the masked maniac’s knife. But with a new film having been greenlit some of those characters will be back from the dead. So who’s returning for Scream 7 ?
For the first time Kevin Williamson, who first the original screenplay for “Scream,” will now make his “Scream” directorial debut with Scream 7 that sets for release in cinemas on 27th Feb 2026. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who starred in the first two movies of the “Scream” reboot, are not returning for the seventh movie. Barrera due to her comments about the Palestine/Israel conflict and Ortega due to her shooting on a new series of, ‘Wednesday’.
Familiar faces Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are also set to star, alongside “Scream” newcomers Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Joel McHale, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos and Ethan Embry. But its Woodsboro’s favorite deputy sheriff who will be back from the dead and returning for Scream 7 and will now officially reprise his role as Dewey from the first five films. But he won’t be the only one who is to be resurrected with Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard are also set to return. Quite how this is possible is anyone’s guess but credit to Williamson is that his original script subverted and often satirized the tropes of modern horror films and its likely he will do the same here with these returning characters thought to be dead. With the cat now out of the bag we are looking forward to see how they do it.
