Since the end of the last trilogy in 2019 rumours have abounded regarding further films but now there’s news of a Ryan Gosling Star Wars film that might be about about to be greenlit very soon.
There is an untitled Star Wars movie on the release calendar for 17th December 2027 and new is that director Shawn Levy and Jonathan Tropper have been working on their Star Wars movie for two years which is thought to be that film. It is reportedly not connected to the Luke Skywalker films and will be a standalone movie. Lucasfilm had no comment on any impending deal or the project’s details.
Sources say that the actor is has taken a shine to the project when Levy’s movie schedule was first going to be a boy band movie reuniting him with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. But Gosling’s interest and involvement suddenly shifted the Star Wars project up a gear and if the film is greenlit then a Ryan Gosling Star Wars film would go into production with cameras rolling in Autumn 2025.
The new hope (see what we did there) is that a Star Wars Celebration this year in Tokyo might see a formal announcement and confirmation. If so it would move the film ahead of projects involving directors James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Dave Filoni which had been announced at the Star Wars Celebration in April 2023.
A Ryan Gosling Star Wars film would be a first for the actor who to date has not had a major franchise project that so many of his leading man colleagues have under their belts. His next film will be the sci-fi thriller “Project Hail Mary” from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, ( who infamously got booted off the ‘Solo’ film) and is based on the bestseller by Andy Weir.
