At a bit of a tangent to our film based features we know there’s a huge amount of interest in retro TV series and to that end we chatted to the legendary ‘Tiswas’ presenter Sally James about just about everything about the show. We got around to talking about a whole load of things about the anarchic kids show which became a favourite far beyond its kids demographic with infamous guests that included Bernard Manning, Michael Palin and bands as diverse as Motorhead, Led Zeppelin, Madness and the Top of the Pops dance troupe, Pan’s People. Though the show ended in the early 1980’s there was a one off special titled Tiswas Reunited which saw the team return in 2007 for one last show
Now for anyone not in the know Tiswas was a hugely influential Saturday morning kids TV show from the later 1970’s into the early 1980’s hosted by Chris Tarrant and Sally James aided by Lenny Henry, Bob Carolgees and John Gorman. Ostensibly a kids TV show it gained a huge cult audience with students and adults alike and had an array of eclectic guests and we chatted about the more infamous guests and how the the likes of Robert Plant ended up on the show and also the story about the guest they almost killed accidently live on air!
