Tom Cruise has a busy year ahead of him and whilst we wait for the release of the next and potentially last Mission Impossible film he will star in there’s now news of a Tom Cruise horror film.
That will be ‘Deeper’ described as a supernatural horror film that will be helmed by Doug Liman who Cruise has worked with before on American Made and Edge of Tomorrow (which is also awaiting a long gestating sequel). Deeper follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench.
It’s a film that has been around for almost a decade having been in development since 2016 from a speculative script pitched by Max Landis (son of director John). Since then its haf a number of people attached starting with Bradley Cooper starring with Kornél Mundruczó directing. After they dropped out it was Idris Elba and filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur but that too fell apart. A Tom Cruise horror film would be a first for him as he never made appeared in one before and the nearest he got was the remake of hoped for Universal monster franchise starter The Mummy and took a very hands on approach to that which ultimately did not end well ending the franchise before it ever really got started
Cruise and Liman are already planning a NASA film to be shot in outer space, in collaboration with SpaceX though that too is in development.
Tom Cruise’s immediate schedule includes a much anticipated Days of Thunder sequel for Paramount Pictures but before that he’s set to start shooting a new Alejandro G. Iñárritu film for Warner Bros and Legendary, thought plot details for it are extremely thin.
