So whilst he he continues to continue his slow clamber back up the ladder of stardom after the Oscar slap ( likely to remain the Oscar ceremony’s most infamous moment for years if not decades) partly resuscitating his career with the success of Bad Boys 4 it looks like Will Smith and Michael Bay will reunite for their next film nearly 30 years after that first film.
And that film will be Fast and loose for Netflix. Smith dropped out of the thriller Sugar Bandits which he was potentially lining up as his next project – a film where Smith was to play a former special forces soldier who runs an elite vigilante squad working to wipe out the drug trade in Boston. Sicario: Soldado director Stefano Sollima boarded as director earlier this year and was sold at Cannes on the proviso that Smith would star. It has been suggested that that the $400m box office success of Bad boys 4 meant the star could ease his way into a bigger studio movie. Director David Leitch was to helm but stepped down to instead to do, ‘The Fall Guy’.
Fast and Loose follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.
Bay previously helmed the 2019 action thriller 6 Underground for Netflix, with was a big success for the streamer and his 2022 thriller Ambulance is one of the most played action movies on the channel. Smith is due to start filming Sony Pictures’ sci-fi thriller “Resistor,” based on Daniel Suarez’s 2014 novel “Influx.” So it will be interesting to see Will Smith and Michael Bay reunite after all these years.
