Daniel Day Lewis, one of our greatest actors, has only appeared in a handful of cinema films but they have all been excellent and its little wonder that directors Scorsese, Spielberg and Mann all regard him so highly and with three Oscars to his name the industry agree. But after 2017’s The Phantom Thread he announced he was retiring from acting. Well the news is that Daniel Day Lewis comes out of retirement …..and its his son Ronan Day Lewis we have to thank for that. Ronan Day-Lewis, 26, is a filmmaker and painter whose upcoming solo exhibition debuts in Hong Kong.
The film that marks his return to acting will be Anemone from first-time director Ronan. The father and son duo co-wrote the script that explores family bonds, specifically those involving fathers, sons and brothers. Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green round out the cast.
Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement, “We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator…….. “They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.’
Daniel Day Lewis won the Academy Awards for best actor for My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood and Lincoln and he also earned Oscar nominations for his roles in In the Name of the Father, Gangs of New York and Phantom Thread. Whether this new film will continue that trend remains to be seen. Filming begins shortly
