You might not know Leigh Whannell’s name but he is the writer who gave us ‘Saw’ (and also appeared as one of the leads trapped in Jigsaw’s hellish basement too). he also wrote all the Insidious films to date and the most excellent reworking of The Invisible Man, a film that was intended to be part of Universal’s Dark Universe of horror films that stalled after the failure of The Mummy (not his fault as he had no hand in the film although Tom Cruise who starred famously did) ) Well he’s turning back to the Universal classic minsters with a first look at the Wolf Man trailer
Here he directs rather than writes and the film follows a man who must protect himself and his family when they are being stalked, terrorized, and haunted by a deadly werewolf at night during a full moon. But as the night stretches on, the man begins to behave strangely.
Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Sam Jaeger and Matilda Firth co-star in the film featuring a dangerous werewolf at night during a full moon. Ryan Gosling was rumoured to be playing the lead in what would have been an interesting turn having never really done horror but in the end Abbott took over the role for undisclosed reasons. Equally Justin Lin , best known for helming many of the best in the Fast & Furious franchise had been pencilled in to direct before dropping out.
This will mark Whannell’s fourth directorial effort following “Insidious: Chapter 3,” “Upgrade” and “The Invisible Man” all have which have shown him as adept at helming a film as he is at writing the scripts for them.
Universal and Blumhouse will release the project in cinemas on 17th January 2025
