Sneaking onto streaming in 2022 was a new Predator film titled, ‘Prey’ and surprised everyone at how good it was after a lacklustre and underperforming sequels in the franchise. Directed and written by Dan Trachtenberg the success of Prey saw him being given the reigns and it appears that he is helming Predator 8 or Predator Badlands as its actually titled. What has emerged recently is some predator 8 filming news.
And the surprise news is that it appears to have been filming in New Zealand since June under the title, ‘Backpack’ and will shortly wrap filming in September. Locations have included place in Rotorua, Te Kuiti, and the South Head peninsula of New Zealand.
Details of the film were leaked in a casting call which described the film synopsis as, “A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions.”
It goes on to say that the lead actress must be able to handle heavy action as well as wearing prosthetics/heavy makeup. Earleor this year there was news that Emmy nominee Elle Fanning was in talks to star in the film which Trachtenberg co-wrote with Patrick Aison. The lead actress will play the twin sisters called Thia and Tessa who his described as smart, witty and has spent most of her life in a laboratory and with this she is “on her first big adventure in the world”. Tessa “has a militant intensity” when it comes to completing her goals and objectives.
Much like Alien Romulus, Prey rebooted the Predator franchise and this new film should see a summer 2025 release
