The new Bond director shortlist …….

movie flex

With no news yet as to who will  play the new Bond (our Editor misguidedly thinks he’s in with a chance and has been practicing downing martini cocktail’s ……in a pint glass!) but the potential new Bond director shortlist has been drawn up with some interesting choices. That first Bond film with a new actor in the role is an important one and the master of that was Martin Campbell who helmed Goldeneye and Casino Royale but he is not on that list unfortunately.

Frontrunner is Edward Berger, who directed the multiple award-winning recent remake of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” with “Animal Kingdom” helmer David Michod and “Venom: The Last Dance” director Kelly Marcel also contenders. If Marcel was chosen it would be the first time the franchise has had a female director!

In terms of directors who have directed the most Bond films it is John Glen who has helmed the most with five films under his belt ( three with Moore and both Dalton films) followed by Guy Hamilton with four and Terence Young & Lewis Gilbert with three each then Sam Mendes & Martin Campbell with two.

Edward Berger most recently directed “Conclave” starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Isabella Rossellini which opens in November. David Michod, who also helmed “The Rover,” “War Machine” and the Timothee Chalamet-led “The King,” is currently editing a ‘new version’ of his stoner dramedy “Wizards!”. Whereas Kelly Marcel, who wrote all three “Venom” films along with “Cruella” and “Fifty Shades of Grey,” is in post-production on her directorial debut with the final “Venom” film.

So those are the three on the new Bond director shortlist but lets be honest we all want to know who will be the new Bond….and it wont be Idris Elba or a woman.
