The Killer – TRAILER

movie flex

Not to be confused with David Fincher’s identical titled (and phenomenal) Netflix film of the same name The Killer is a remake of Hong Kong director’s own 1989 film. A hugely influential film that profoundly affected many Hollywood directors most notably Tarantino with his debut film Reservoir Dogs. It’s extremely rare for a director to remake their own films with the most high profile example being Hitchcock’s own remake of his 1934 film  film The Man Who Knew Too Much in 1956 which was admittedly superior to the original. Woo had a brief foray in Hollywood before returning to Hong Kong but then 2023 saw him back in Hollywood  to make Silent Night and The Killer remake trailer is hopefully a return to form

The Killer remake has a similar story where an assassin tries to make amends in an effort to restore the sight of a beautiful young singer. The original had two male leads but here Nathalie Emmanuel takes the lead with Omar Sy taking the other.

The Killer remake trailer sees the Woo trademarks all present and correct – the pistol in both hands shoot outs,  the flying doves and the slo-mo sequences  but quite whether this will top the astonishing original is hard to imagine and the action genre has upped the ante with films like John Wick and The Raid taking it to new heights, But let’s not judge just yet but do check out the original film as well as Woo’s ‘Hard Boiled’ also and take a look at ‘A Better Tomorrow’ and its sequel too!

Disappointingly it seems that this is going straight to streaming on Peacock and is released on 23rd August 2024.
