After the critical success of the BAFTA award winning ‘Moon’ starring Sam Rockwell director Duncan Jones turned to thriller territory with Source Code now making its long awaited 4K UHD debut on 20th May 2024.
Jake Gyllenhaal stars as soldier Colter Stevens, who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers that he is part of a government mission to identify the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The experiment, known as the ‘Source Code’, enables its subjects to take on a person’s identity for the last eight minutes of their lives. Colter has been programmed to relive the incident over and over again, piecing together clues until he can figure out who the suspect is and prevent another large-scale terrorist attack.
With a neat sci-fi twist and fantastic visual effects with several decent set pieces and a great ending the film was another great addition to Gyllenhaal’s body of work having caught audience attention with Donnie Darko, blockbuster disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow, Oscar winning Brokeback Mountain as well as playing the lead in David Fincher’s under rated ‘Zodiac’. Source Code performed well at the box office making $147m off a modest $32m budget but again it wasn’t the A-list star making role that it should have been
