Before his death in 1997 of a drug overdose, Chris Farley rose to fame during his five seasons as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” Having joined SNL in 1990 he was best known for playing an enthusiastic Chicago Bears supporter as part of “Bill Swerski’s Superfans,” misguided motivational speaker Matt Foley and an underprepared talk show host before turning to big-screen comedies like “Tommy Boy,” “Black Sheep” and “Beverly Hills Ninja.” His death at 33 shook not just the industry but all lovers of film and comedy and immediately drew comparisons to fellow SNL alum John Belushi, who died at the same age in 1982. Still revered there is now news of a Chris Farley biopic.
Made with the blessing of the Farley family the film will mark the directorial debut of actor Josh Gad with Paul Walter Hauser, an Emmy, Critics’ Choice, and Golden Globe Award-winning actor for his role in Apple TVs, “Black Bird,” will play the title role.
scar and Emmy nominees Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (“The Disaster Artist,” “Daisy Jones & the Six”) will write the screenplay based on the New York Times best-selling biography “The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts” by Tom Farley Jr. (Chris Farley’s brother) and Tanner Colby.
Rumour has it that the production was highly sought by studios with New Line Cinema eventually winning. The Chris Farley biopic is expected to start shooting layer this year
