It was well known that Schwarzenegger Stallone two of the biggest action stars in the 80’s disliked one another to such a degree that they began to engage in a tactical warfare in how to derail each others movies. But what caused the Schwarzenegger Stallone feud in the first place?
It seems to have begun all the way back in 1977 at the Golden Globes awards where they were seated at the same table. Stallone was nominated in six categories and had lost in five of them whilst Schwarzenegger had won the New Star award. Stallone claims that Schwarzenegger had been laughing at the five losses irritating Stallone so much that he threw a bowl of flowers at Arnie. Nonetheless Stallone did triumph when Rocky eventually won for ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama’ at the awards (which Stallone had written).
From thereon it only escalated where their subsequent films would have bigger guns and the stars would shoot more people and generally try to out-do each other in ant way possible and at one point Arnie even claimed that Sly was using body doubles.
It all came to an end in the late 1990s where the pair of them along with Bruce Willis had invested in Planet Hollywood and travelled together to attend various opening around the world where they finally settled the Schwarzenegger Stallone feud.
Since then they have become good friends even working on projects together notably Escape Plan and better still The Expendables.
“He is a great human being, and we are now inseparable,” Schwarzenegger said whereas Stallone praised Schwarzenegger. “He just had all the answers. He had the body. He had the strength. That was his character.”
