The Green Inferno – Eli Roth & Lorenza Izzo talk cannibal carnage!

movie flex

Eli Roth loves his horror and The Green Inferno was his homage to those infamous cannibal films, ‘Holocaust’ and ‘Ferox’ and like those films he does not spare the grisly gore.

The film follows a group of student activists who travel to the Amazon to save the rain forest and soon discover that they are not alone and that no good deed goes unpunished when they are kidnapped by a cannibal tribe regarding them not as hostages but as their next meal.

Behind The Green Inferno…

The film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in 2013 to jaw dropping shock specifically one scene in the middle of the film where the tribe set about making a meal of one of them to horrifying effect courtesy of some stomach churning effects by the prosthetic make up crew (the Oscar wining KNB FX). It’s peak gore for the film and when we were invited along to a preview a colleague passed out. This was Roth’s fourth film after his debut Cabin Fever which he followed with Hostel and its sequel but The Green Inferno release in the UK was disrupted  by issues with the then distributor and ultimately the film made $12m off a $5m budget.

We had the opportunity to chat to Eli and his lead actress Lorenza Izzo about the making of the film, sequels filming in the depths of a real life jungle and the audience reaction which had included people running out of the screening unable to stomach the on screen atrocities.

Here is what Eli and Lorenza revealed about the film….
