Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer – before Dickinson was Di’anno!

One of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time – but before Bruce Dickinson became the legendary lead singer we all know and love, there was another innovator who made his mark on the world of metal… Step forward Paul Di’Anno Iron Maiden’s lost singer – an unknown rebellious punk rock vocalist from East London who paved the way as the band’s original recording frontman before his fall from grace.

Well known for his ‘punkish snarl’ (Louder Sound) and guttural vocals, his colourful career saw him front many bands including Battlezone, Killers and Architects of Chaoz. Now a strikingly raw, no holds barred, new feature documentary Di’Anno: Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer, captures the late unsung music legend’s later years, as he battles debilitating illness and rides an emotional rollercoaster that sees him physically, emotionally and professionally fight to get back on his feet, thanks to the love and support of his dedicated fans.
The singer takes centre stage as he reflects on his career, those seminal years performing with Iron Maiden and provides insight into the gruelling health issues that plagued his later life. The film follows Di’Anno as he relocates to Croatia for a potentially lifesaving surgery, thanks to the hardworking efforts of fans Kastro Pergjoni and Stjepan Juras, who raised money to get the wheelchair-bound singer back on his feet, literally and metaphorically.
An insightful, emotional, and at times harrowing account of his final years, the documentary sees Di’Anno undergo knee surgery, run out of money, reunite with music legends and fall in love, all while his health makes a dramatic turn-around thanks to the goodwill of fans, doctors, nurses and his former bandmates, leading to his heroic, risky and drama-filled return to the stage.

Incredible contributors…

In this stark and intimate film, director Wes Orshoski (Lemmy) follows the rocker from 2017 up to 2023 – a year before his untimely death. Following its theatrical release and ahead of his posthumous induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year.
Featuring a veritable who’s who of heavy metal big hitters including former bandmate Steve Harris, Metallica’s James Hetfield, KISS’ Gene Simmons, and members of Exodus, Overkill, Slayer, Megadeth and Sepultura, the feature is a moving tribute to the musician who redefined metal and his lasting legacy.
Di’Anno: Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer is set to arrive on UK digital 27th July 2026
