I’ve seen all I need to see – REVIEW

movie flex

The premise of a character returning to their home town after years away is not an uncommon one for movies and its one that writer director Zeshan Younus uses in her low budget film, ‘I’ve seen all I need to see’. Here LA based actress Parker (Renee Gagner) returns to her own home town to locate her sister Indiana (Rosie McDonald) who’s involved in some shady deal with a biker having told her sister “I’m in pretty deep out here … If anything happens to me don’t come looking.” Inevitably something has happened and Parker goes looking and it’s not long before audiences will wish she hadn’t bothered

What she might be expected to find is intriguing plot twists and quirky characters stylishly presented. But she doesn’t. What she finds and what we get is painful navel gazing voiceovers and a story where little if anything really happens set against unending shots of nothing in particular – the corner of a window, the underside of a bridge, Parker walking up a set of steps which is shot in its entirety as she gets to the top. It often feels like these shots make up the majority of its 84 minute running time that makes this feel a lot longer. In fact the film’s title doesn’t appear until 32 minutes into the film and is likely to have audiences reaching for the fast forward button when it get a Home Entertainment release.

There’s close ups galore of Parker looking into middle distance whilst a voiceover spouts vapid banal aphorisms that even Meghan Markle might draw a line at. In fact, ‘I’ve seen all I need to see’ is a phrase last uttered by viewers after only a minute into Meghan Markle’s Netflix cooking show. It’s likely to be the same for audiences watching what increasingly becomes patience testing pretension.
