With the recent launch of HBO Max in the UK they have announced a impressive array of programming and films for the channel that includes series, specials, documentaries and films. Here’s what you can look forward to as part of the HBO Max May 2026 releases….

THE SEVEN – SONG OF THE SAMURAI debuts on 9th May is original Series (Japan)
8 Episodes debuting weekly the series is set in Kyoto at the end of the Edo period and explores the intense and passionate lives of the Shinsengumi – the iconic samurai force that defended Kyoto in the final years of Japan’s shogunate – through spectacular action and a bold interpretation based on historical facts. Street brawler Toshizo Hijikata (Yuki Yamada), finds a new kind of family in Isami Kondo and Soji Okita. Hijikata and his comrades in the Shinsengumi forge a bond of loyalty – tested by betrayal, illness, and war – as they fight not only their enemies but their own ideals.

ON THE ROAM is a six-part cinematic docuseries following Jason Momoa as he travels the country chasing art, adventure, and friendship through the lens of craftsmanship.

HBO Original Comedy Special
Johnson debuts original material about our shared experiences as humans – tackling topics like family, religion, and relationships through his unique point of view and signature creativity. Viewers can expect a truly original and unforgettable experience. The special was filmed at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

WE ARE JENI – Investigation Discovery Documentary that debuts on 8th May 2026
A documentary special that follows the remarkable true story of an Australian woman, Jeni Haynes, who created more than 2,500 identities to confront a lifetime of unimaginable abuse at the hands of her father and bring him to justice.
