With five films together already under their belt news is that Guy Ritchie & Jason Statham reunite for a sixth film. And that film will be the action-thriller “Viva La Madness”.
Now the plot for which is being kept under wraps but is rumoured to be based on J.J. Connolly’s novel that is a sequel to “Layer Cake,” which a pre-Bond Daniel Craig in a 2004 film. But this follow up is to be a stand-alone film rather than a sequel, spin-off or continuation of any previous adaptation of Connolly’s work.
Filming is set to begin in January 2026 and at present Statham is currently the only cast member attached with Ritchie set as writer and director. The film was initiated by Statham and Thomas Benski (“Gangs of London”), who will be producing via Statham’s Punch Palace Productions and Lumina Studios, alongside Ritchie’s Toff Guy Films.
The book “Viva La Madness,” was originally published in 2011 and follows an anonymous London drug dealer known as X and filled with sex, scams, narcotics and dirty money.
Layer Cake was based on Connolly’s 2000 novel of the same name and was the directorial debut of Matthew Vaughn, who had previously produced Ritchie and Statham’s breakout film “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and its follow up “Snatch.”
That Guy Ritchie & Jason Statham reunite for the film has been on the cards for over ten years and Statham had been lined up to play Craig’s character way back in 2013.
