The Scream franchise which which had a sort of relaunch with the fifth film has had collectively earned over $900m worldwide was to start shooting a new film but after Melissa Barrera was fired owing to some arguably misjudged comments about the Israel-Palestine situation. Jenny Ortega was also out but that was owing to scheduling conflicts at the intended time of shooting. Well the film is back on and look who’s joining the Scream 7 cast!
Kevin Williamson, architect of the Scream franchise who scripted the original Wes Craven film, will direct from a script by Guy Busick with the plot of the new film being kept under wraps (we’re guessing it will include a masked – that’s just a wild stab in the dark, which is probably a plot point anyway!). It will be the first tiome he doirected a film in the franchise since his inception of the series way back in the 1990’s that saw horror maestro, the late Wes Craven helm the first four films.
After her pay dispute was resolved Neve Campbell is returning as scream queen Sidney Prescott and Mason Gooding as her fellow Ghostface survivor, Chad Meeks-Martin. Newcomer Isabel May will Sidney’s daughter, with Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp also on board in new, undisclosed roles.
But the newest announcement is that joining the Scream 7 cast will be Courtney Cox who reprises as Gale Weathers, the sharp and ambitious news reporter-turned-author who’s often found herself at the centre of the Ghostface killings. negotiations for her return had been protracted but she will be back.
Scream 7 is set to hit cinemas worldwide on 27th February 2026.
