Way back in 1997 we had Anaconda a creature feature about the giant South American snakes that starred an eclectic cast that included Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight. Deliriously daft and icky in parts ( Jon Voight getting vomited up by the snake was a particular highlight). It spawned several increasingly poor sequels but a remake has been on the cards for years and it seems that we are now going to get one with a Christmas anaconda being greenlit. That is to say Christmas 2025 will see the film released.
It’s Sony who will be making it and starring will be Paul Rudd and also Jack Black, so we’re guessing that the snake will be gargantuan with an epic appetite. Helming the film will be filmmaker Tom Gormican whose film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent starring Nicolas Cage was a lot of self reverential fun. Gormican has co-written the film with Kevin Etten who also co-wrote and produced Massive Talent.
In a video statement Jack Black said “There’s gonna be a big f**cking snake, and it’s gonna rip,” Thanks for that insight, Jack. Invaluable.
So this Christmas we’re getting a Sonic hedgehog, next year we’re getting a Christmas anaconda!
