Y2K – TRAILER

movie flex

It doesn’t seem that long ago but actually its been  24 years since we approached the new millennium where all manner of catastrophe was being forecast notably by real life Alan Partridge tribute act Richard Madeley. But with us safely into the millennium by almost three decades we now have a bit of retro comedy horror with the release of the Y2K trailer.

Y2K is set on New Year’s Eve 1999 where two high school nobodies decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined when electronic devices — many of which are touchstones from the end of the 20th century — attempt to destroy humanity.

Kyle Mooney (co-writer of Brigsby Bear) makes his directorial feature debut from a script he co-wrote with Evan Winter. The film stars Jaeden Martell (It films), Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), which imagines a world in which the computer crisis predicted for the year 2000 actually came to pass.

Rachel Zegler (who we will see in the new live action version of Snow White next year) had replaced Jenna Ortega in the lead role due to scheduling conflicts. A stacked ensemble also includes Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, rapper The Kid Laroi, Tim Heidecker, Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Fred Hechinger and Daniel Zolghadri. Out of the main cast, Mason Golding and Eduardo Franco were alive during the events of the film. Golding was 3 years old and Franco was 5. Miles Robbins who played Nugz, was 7. Daniel Zolghadri was born about a month after the film’s events.
