From writer- director Pedro Almodóvar comes a sneak peak at his latest film with the release of The Room Next Door trailer and as with all his films he has a great cast.
Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
As ever this is a female led film with two great actresses in the leads both of which are the same age (there’s only a month difference between them). His last film with two female leads was the really excellent ‘Parallel Mothers’ starring Penelope Cruz that earned her an Oscar nomination though losing out to Jessica Chastain for her role in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. (It was also the year that Will Smith chose to batter Chris Rock on stage in front of millions). Almodovar himself is an Oscar winner having won for her screenplay of his 2003 film, ‘Talk to her’ and there must be high hopes for this latest film as it is released in the season where traditionally award likely films are distributed.
The Room Next Door will be released in UK cinemas on 25th October 2024
