Landing in out inbox is the Monster trailer awarded the Queer Palm and The Best Screenplay Award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, it has gone on to play numerous other festivals such as the San Sebastián International Film Festival and London Film Festival, and was recently nominated for Best International Independent Film at the 2023 BIFAs.
When her young son Minato starts to behave strangely, single mother Saori knows that there is something wrong. Discovering that one of his teachers might be responsible, she storms into the school demanding answers. But as the story unfolds through the eyes of mother, teacher and child, shocking truths begin to emerge.
MONSTER is directed by celebrated Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (After The Storm, Shoplifters, Broker), and features incredible performances from Sakura Ando (Shoplifters, Godzilla: Minus One), and Sōya Kurokawa and Hinata Hiiragi in their debut film roles. The film also boasts a moving score by the late, legendary Oscar-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto
